Houghwood Ladies Section is entertaining, vibrant, fun-filled and friendly.

Ladies’ Golf at Houghwood is the perfect blend of friendly competition, social connection and personal growth. Whether a seasoned player or just starting out, you’ll find a welcoming community, plenty of playing opportunities, and a packed calendar of events—both on and off the course. It’s more than golf; it’s fun, fitness, friendship, and fresh air in a stunning setting.

Ladies have access to the course 7 days a week with a variety of weekly competitions across the year. Our main competition day is Saturday. We have a draw for playing partners, so ladies play with a different group each time, which ensures that new members soon become integrated.

Tuesday morning is the most popular day for a social golf game. We have reserved tees, and many ladies enjoy a social lunch in the clubhouse after their game – whether they’ve played or not – enjoying the unrivalled views over Merseyside, Liverpool Bay and across to Snowdonia.

We Offer a Host of Ladies Competitions and Events

Houghwood Ladies host Open competitions each year, including the popular Autumn Turkey Trot. A calendar favourite is the Dawn Chorus, with a sunrise shotgun start followed by a hearty breakfast. We field two teams in the Lancashire Ladies Shield (Handicap and Bronze) and compete in county and national events such as the Frances Smith Trophy, Scott Leggatt, Ping Mixed Fourball Betterball, and Archie Preston.

There are plenty of chances to play away – from weekends at other courses to the Lady Captain’s Away Day – and even the odd trip abroad.

Beyond golf, the Ladies enjoy a busy social calendar with quiz nights, demos, dining events, Presentation Evenings and the unmissable Ladies Charity Luncheon added to the mix.
